Ukrainian Christmas (celebrated around the Holy Supper, Sviata Vecheria) is rich with symbolism. Here are the traditions that make it special.
The didukh
A sheaf of wheat called the didukh (“grandfather spirit”) is placed in the home to honour ancestors and bless the family with a good harvest — a beautiful natural centrepiece.
The 12-dish Holy Supper
Twelve meatless dishes (one per apostle) are served on Christmas Eve, beginning when the first star appears. Kutia — sweet wheat with poppy seeds, honey and nuts — is the ceremonial first taste.
Folk decor & embroidery
An embroidered rushnyk under the kutia, candles, and handmade ornaments tie the table together. Bring that warmth home with our seasonal decor, embroidered textiles and natural candles.
