How to Care for Linen Clothing So It Lasts for Years
Real linen gets softer and more beautiful with every wash — if you treat it right. Follow these simple rules and your linen will last for decades.
Washing
- Wash in cool or lukewarm water (max 40°C) on a gentle cycle.
- Use a mild detergent; skip bleach and fabric softener (they break down the fibres).
- Wash similar colours together — natural linen can release a little dye at first.
Drying
Air-dry when possible; it’s gentlest and keeps the shape. If you tumble dry, use low heat and remove while slightly damp to reduce creasing.
Ironing & storing
Iron linen while damp on a medium-hot setting, or embrace its natural relaxed texture. Store folded in a dry, breathable place — avoid plastic, which traps moisture.
